Sea Pines Resort
Hilton Head Island, S.C.
One of the true crown jewels of American golf, The Sea Pines Resort is home to legendary Harbour Town Golf Links (host of the PGA TOUR's RBC Heritage) designed by Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus, Heron Point by Pete Dye, and the Ocean Course. The resort's best-in-class collection of golf courses, amenities, meeting facilities and accommodations makes Sea Pines one of the most sought-after leisure and group destinations in America.
All three golf courses are certified by Audubon International for environmental excellence and sound practices. Highlights include the maintenance equipment wash facility using recycled water and turf clippings as they are captured. Sea Pines utilizes all-electric equipment for daily needs. Regularly recycled items include oil, tired, pallets and metals.
Sea Pines modified its irrigation system to reduce water usage and eliminate watering in non-turf areas. Native grasses were planted along lagoon edges on the Ocean Course and Heron Point and, in a 2011 marsh restoration project, on the iconic 18th hole of Harbour Town Golf Links along the shoreline of Calibogue Sound. In addition, 25 bluebird and Purper Martin bird houses were placed throughout Harbor Town's 18 holes.
In 2013, Sea Pines reduced waste management costs by $40,000 and diverted 215 tons of waste from the landfill through recycling efforts.
